What is a Reformed Baptist Church?

This is a summary of our distinctives

Catholic

We share in the same doctrine of God with all of Christianity (i.e., we are ‘catholic’ in our doctrine of God) as found in the historic Ecumenical Creeds of Christianity.
Furthermore, we hold to the Five Solas of the Reformation with all of the historic Protestant Churches and share in the same evangelical commitment with all Evangelical churches.

Covenantal

We believe that God reveals and relates to man through covenants, as given in Scripture. We also believe that the theological covenants, i.e., the Covenant of Redemption, Covenant of Works, and Covenant of Grace, are accurate theological terms describing the relationship between the persons of the Godhead (Covenant of Redemption), between God and humans in general (Covenant of Works), and the church in particular (Covenant of Grace).
Therefore, we are ‘covenantal’ in the way we read the Bible.

Calvinist

We believe in the sovereignty of God in the redemption of man. Salvation, from beginning to end, from election to glorification, is the work of the Triune God. Therefore, we believe that all sinners whom the Father chooses, the Son redeems, and the Spirit calls, will be saved until the end.

Congregational

We believe that Jesus Christ is the supreme head of His church, and that He has authorized and given what is needed for every individual church to govern herself under His authority. We also believe that these local congregations are governed by a plural leadership of the elders chosen from within the membership of that particular local church.

Credo-Baptist

We believe that the ordinance of Baptism is a sign of God’s work in visibly uniting an individual to the body of Christ, having raised them from being dead in sin to be made alive with Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is to be administered only to those who have believed in the gospel and profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a means to join the visible community of God’s people. And only such are to be admitted to the Lord’s Table.

Confessional

We believe that the historic reformed confessions of the 17th century are good and accurate systematic summaries of biblical doctrines. We also believe that these documents hand to the church a tried, tested, true, and ancient faith for her guidance in all things pertaining to worship, life, and doctrine. Therefore, we have adopted one of the historic confessions, namely, the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith, as the official doctrinal statement of HRBC.
